GOODBYE 2024 HELLO 2025

A brief summary of the year that is ending and a preview of the year to come

By Mahnuel Muñoz

Today, one hundred and nine years since the birth of Frank Sinatra, I want to share with @everyone a brief summary of the year we leave behind and a preview of what 2025 brings, which for several reasons will be special for Frank’s fans.

This year, as always, Sinatra has been present in popular culture, resonating with his music, being honored by artists around the world and named in the media for different reasons, something unparalleled in artists of his generation. Their songs were heard at the Paris Olympic Games and at the American Super Bowl. For a brief period of time, Martin Scorsese allowed us to get excited about making the Sinatra biopic, a project that he has been pursuing for more than thirty years and that, for better or worse, has once again been cancelled.

In Argentina, a musical has triumphed in which a young Frankie meets Carlos Gardel, and the Mexican musical star Luis Miguel, within the repertoire of his historic and successful world tour, includes the duet he did with Frank in 1993 of the song “Come Fly With Me“.

His love relationships and the houses he lived in are talked about with interest, he appears in novels and comics and we hear him on soundtracks. Just a couple of days ago Frank was “resurrected” by artificial intelligence in a gin advertisement with his faithful friend Sammy Davis Jr., and very recently the album “L.A. Is My Lady” has been reissued, on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of its publication, which includes unreleased material and has managed to enter the Billboard Jazz charts. On Spotify he climbs daily within the ranking of the most listened to artists.

The feeling that Frank hasn’t left is wonderful.

In my humble work of disseminating his work, I have had the honor of paying tribute to him singing with the Neguri Jazz Band or alone in different places in Madrid. Together with my dear Roberto Martín we broadcast his songs day after day on Sinatra Radio 24h and we add articles to the station’s website (www.sinatraradio24h.com). The project is growing at a surprising speed, has received international recognition and is a huge satisfaction for us.

The Facebook group has exceeded a thousand friends; It is a particle in the enormity of social networks, but it is by no means my intention that this family contract a vacuous gigantism, which often gives rise to fanatics and provocateurs. I prefer that we be few and that our concern is for knowledge and enjoyment. That is why I try, as regularly as possible, to share serious and quality content, much of which is difficult to find on the internet. I am especially proud of the series dedicated to Frank’s last years and the Christmas albums, to name my most recent work.

In 2025 there will be an anniversary of Sinatra’s first known recording, as a member of The Hoboken Four, his signing with Tommy Dorsey‘s orchestra, the films “Anchors Aweigh“, “Von Ryan’s Express” (“Colonel Von Ryan”) and “None But The Brave“, the creation of his Reprise label, the legendary albums “In The Wee Small Hours“, “September Of My Years” and “Trilogy“, the television special “A Man And His Music“, Gay Talese‘s iconic newspaper article “Sinatra Has A Cold“, the date of his last concert and many more milestones. There will be content to learn about all of this in depth. And the most emotional birthday for me is, without detracting from what has already been mentioned, the tenth of this humble group, and without a doubt we will celebrate it.

You are all invited to enjoy another “very good year” for Old Blue Eyes and all of us who admire his art. As a light appetizer, I show you the new image that our group will have, shared with Sinatra Radio 24h and our social networks. It is a design that aims to reinforce the values that have always characterized the project: respect for the artistic and human legacy of Frank Sinatra, informative rigor and unwavering commitment to the task of disseminating his work beyond clichés and sensationalism.

From the heart, thank you all for your support and love.

Cheers, Sinatra and happy holidays.
