“The Way Sinatra Changed My Life”

In a recent post from the Facebook group “Al Mal Tiempo, Frank Sinatra“, Spanish musician Mac Hernández told us how his love for Frank Sinatra’s music began:
“I had several compilations that my friend Dani Zamora had made for me on cassette, also at his house I started recording my own compilations researching in the Reprise trunk, etc. At the same time I was recording hours and hours of documentaries on VHS. Obviously that It lasted a few visits to his house and then we discussed the tapes in which he noted the year of recording and the arranger of each song.
Also in those sessions he lent me the book written by a journalist friend of Frank. which was released during Sinatra’s lifetime (I don’t remember the name now) but he told anecdotes from within his circle. They were exhaustive and wonderful sessions in which we also sang some songs with guitar and voice (very frequently “A Man Alone” and others from that stage) Dani also knew the chords with much more rigor than how the standards sometimes appear in the Real Book.
That period changed my life and opened me to something that has stayed forever in addition to helping me in the most pleasant way possible to enter jazz in general. After that I studied music at a school (until that moment I had been completely self-taught), I bought my double bass, etc., a crucial stage for me because it helped me in my professional career and of course gave much more quality of life to everything. I could go on, but I’ll stop here, for now…. And Dani never recorded “My Way” or “Strangers In the Night” or “New York, New York” for me; I told him to abstain from those and go for it.
