In 1972 Frank Sinatra officially retired from show business, although he maintained his public activity, mainly at political events. In his free time he plays golf and devotes himself to his role as a painter, to which he has dedicated himself regularly since the 1950s.
In the spring of that year, the Reprise label released “Frank Sinatra Greatest Hits Volume 2“, a compilation of eleven songs that, with the exception of “September Of My Years” (recorded in 1965) were recorded between 1968 and 1970.
The main attraction of the album is that it includes several songs that at the time were only published as singles or had remained unreleased, highlighting the sweet and intimate reading of a song of children’s origin (“Bein’ Green“, from the program “Sesame Street“) and the spectacular “Something” (George Harrison) and “I’m Not Afraid” (Jacques Brel/Rod McKuen).
The album did not manage to rise from number 88 on the North American charts, but it served to alleviate the longing of his most faithful admirers, who would see his joy fulfilled the following year, when the artist announced his return for everything. top.
