As far as I know, Argentines are among the people who love Frank Sinatra the most. The Argentine community express themselves with captivating passion. They treasure with almost religious fervor the memories of Sinatra ‘s visit to Buenos Aires and a magnificent book was even published (“Operacion Sinatra”, by Diego Mancusi and Sebastián Grandi) that passionately recounts the days of Old Blue Eyes in Argentina.
Frank arrived in Buenos Aires after another historic week of concerts at the luxurious Sun City hotel complex, in Bophuttaswana, South Africa, and the plan in Argentina consisted of six other recitals, four of them at the Sheraton Hotel and two at the Luna Park Stadium. The promoters of Sinatra’s stay were the music producer Ricardo Finkel and the singer and actor Ramón “Palito” Ortega.
Frank is ecstatic, full of confidence with the success of his numerous and extended tours and the reasonable reception of his most recent work, “Trilogy.” The August 10 concert was recorded to be broadcast in a television special titled “La Voz En Argentina”, throughout the country, as well as Chile, Paraguay and Venezuela. The response from the audience was absolutely electrifying, and watching the video is pure joy for me, even though the old VHS copy I own is very deteriorated and suffers from image cuts and sound fluctuations. It was one of the first pieces in my “clandestine” Sinatra collection and I have a special affection for it.
