SINATRA – THE TEENAGER POET
“Sinatra The Teenager Poet”… While enjoying the summer holidays of 1934 in the house that his aunt Josie had in the Jersey Bay, Frank Sinatra met Nancy Rose Barbato, who also enjoyed the holiday on the other side of the street, in a large house next to her family. Nancy was on the porch of the house by making her manicure when Frank approached her ukelele and began singing for her. One thing led to the other and the rest is history. Another of the strategies that Frank launched during the courtship was to write poems like “Moonlight” (Luz de Luna), as clumsy as charming. The image shows a manuscript signed by Francis Sinatra, with a rubric very different from his fame years
“I don’t care about the moonlight
on a rural road,
Unless you have a company
nice to stop (sic).
I don’t care about the moonlight
About the sea
Unless you have adequate
company for me.
I don’t care about the moonlight
In a city street
Unless someone by hand
Be obviously sweet.
I don’t care about the moonlight
nowhere-it has grace,
Unless, well, maybe you liked it
Give a little walk- mmm? “
