The 1942 Musicians’ Strike

In 1942, a crucial event took place in the evolution of the popular music scene: North American musicians went on strike due to the low remuneration they received for their studio work and the displacement to which they were subjected due to the growing popularity of jukeboxes in many countries. venues that until then resorted to live music.
The strike lasted for two years, during which only singers made recordings, accompanied by choirs or vocal groups. During this time Frank Sinatra recorded an exquisite series of a cappella songs that we will share in the coming days.
The strike resulted in the decline in popularity of big bands, and the rise of vocalists, preparing the ground for Frank Sinatra’s great leap as a solo artist in 1943.
In November 1944, the musicians got the record companies to sign a fairer agreement for the musicians.
