SINATRA LEAVES HIS MARK AT GRAUMAN’S

By Mahnuel Muñoz

On July 20, 1965, Frank Sinatra stamped his signature, his handprints and his footprints on the sidewalk in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Grauman’s Chinese Theater (today TCL Chinese Theatre, after its acquisition by a large Chinese electronics company) is a cinema located at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard, the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It opened on May 18, 1927 with the premiere of the film “King of Kings” by Cecil B. DeMille.

Since then it has been the location chosen for many premieres (including “Star Wars” in 1977) and three Oscar ceremonies.

Among its most distinctive features are the cement blocks on its sidewalk, with the signatures and footprints of film personalities from the 1920s to the present.

There are many stories about the origin of footprints; The official version attributes the authorship of the first of them to the actress Norma Talmadge, when she accidentally stepped on the fresh concrete.

It was declared a historical and cultural monument in 1968.
