“Portrait Of An Album/Sinatra Sings” (2017)

By Mahnuel Muñoz

Within the series of reissues of his television specials, in 2017 we had the pleasant surprise of having this title, which includes two documentaries; “Sinatra Sings” (2011) is a compilation of great moments on television, narrated by Tina Sinatra. Since they are themes taken from her television specials, published previously, they do not have much appeal for major collectors.

FRANK SINATRA RADIO

Obviously, the reason to buy this DVD is “Portrait Of An Album“, a legendary film from 1984 that shows us Sinatra and his group during the recording of the magnificent album “L.A.Is My Lady” produced by Quincy Jones and which included a firmament of jazz musicians, including Lionel Hampton, Roy Brown, Buddy Colette, George Benson, Joe Newman and a kilometer of etcetera. It is a fascinating document, unique in the way it shows us The Voice shaping his work in the studio, something that could only be seen briefly in the interview with Walter Cronkite in 1965, and gives an additional dimension to an album that has been unfairly treated by history.

The only drawback, for those of you who don’t know English, is the absence of subtitles, but the musical and historical value of this video is incalculable, at a ridiculous price.
